Quality Assurance

Did You Know?

In Tolerance has manufactured parts for the International Space Station, Mars Rover, Hubble Telescope and the Space Shuttle.

Quality Requirements

In Tolerance continues to innovate in the marketplace by adding capabilities to eliminate waste and reduce cost to maximize our customer’s value proposition. In Tolerance has implemented leading edge capacity planning technology, as we continue to raise the bar in our commitment to Customer On-Time Delivery. Due to the growing regulatory requirements and thus customer requirements for documentation, specifically First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR), In Tolerance has found a way to provide the highest quality reporting without impacting the product delivery timeline or cost to the customer.

In Tolerance has been recognized as one of Iowa’s outstanding precision contract manufacturers and has received numerous awards and recognitions from organizations such as the Small Business Administration (SBA), Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, Rockwell Collins, Carleton Life Support Systems, Trans Technology Electronics, and second tier Boeing Aircraft suppliers.

In October of 1998, In Tolerance was one of the first precision machine shops in Iowa to become ISO certified. In Tolerance has maintained that certification and has since added the AS9100 certification, and in 2015 became Nadcap certified for the special processes of paint, passivate, and chromium conversion with the unique capability to support its own salt spray corrosion testing.

Mission

In Tolerance’s Quality department is founded on the relentless principle of Quality First.

We provide customer satisfaction. This is the principal that drives our success.

We believe through quality manufacturingon-time deliveries and cost effectiveness our customers will grow and be a source of our growth.

The In Tolerance focus is on innovation, as delivered to and perceived by our customers; achieved as a result of constant improvement to our internal processes.

A Process Improvement Culture

High-Res Part

We strive to improve our Quality Management System to ensure that we never rest on our laurels. Through effective management, a process improvement culture and the efficient application of innovation, we consistently improve our products’ qualityprice and delivery lead-times. Some examples of these improvements are as follows:

  • First Article Inspection Report (FAIR) Automation and Error-Proofing

With the ever increasing requirements placed on documentation, In Tolerance implemented the use of a software package to streamline this process to help maintain current workload, maintain document quality, and still provide these stringent reports without delays to our customers. This capability allows In Tolerance to provide AS9102 reports to support your documentation requirements.

  • Special Processing

In Tolerance completely renovated its Chromium Conversion and Passivation lines, adding an accredited in-house Salt Spray Testing capability, to address better lot uniformity, throughput and process technology to ensure that we are building Quality into the Product.

  • Electronic/Visual Work Instructions

As a side benefit to the addition of our Capacity Planning Software, we have now installed computer workstations at each manufacturing cell to afford our talented machinists with complete electronic access to Work Instructions, Production Planning Documents, and 3-D Models.

  • Capacity Planning

In Tolerance developed and implemented a scheduling and capacity planning application that provides a graphic interface to allow our planning group to visually review the impact of inserting new jobs into our production schedule. The ability to actively review and dynamically plan our production schedule allows us more flexibility to meet our customer’s needs along with providing a delivery commitment that is month-after-month better than 99.5% on-time.

State of the Art Equipment

In Tolerance maintains three (3) state of the art Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) that serve to support the significant inspection requirements of today’s precision parts for the aerospace, defense and medical markets. This CMM capacity allows us to support high quality product delivery completing successive checks between manufacturing operations and final inspection, reducing production costs due to rework/scrap, all while maintaining industry leading On-Time Delivery metrics.
